The Illuminated Path

Several years ago, my husband and I were in the midst of anguish.

The company he had co-founded was experiencing difficulties. We had worked, prayed, and put everything we had into his company. Nevertheless, the conditions in our current experience were not what we’d planned. We were scared. And our fear bubbled to the surface while on a long anticipated road trip down the west coast of the United States.

While wandering through the Japanese Garden in Portland, Oregon, we felt weary. It was one of the loveliest places we had ever been, but we carried a heavy weight, along with the confusion and shame of potential entrepreneurial failure. We teetered on the edge of trust in the Divine and fear of what “bad” might happen as a result of our risk-taking. We were looking for something to settle our anxiety.

In the garden, smack-dab in the middle of our conversation, we heard a sound that I will never forget. I can still hear it. There was a contraption built into a fountain. It was designed to slowly fill with water until the balance point changed, triggering a sudden release… pop! Then it would empty and begin the process of filling with water once again. I don’t remember specifically what I was saying to my husband at that moment of synchronicity, but I know I was talking about the divine timing of success. At the ideal moment… pop! The sound factored into our conversation so miraculously, so beautifully, that I knew it was more than a coincidence. It was perfect.

Perfect timing was at play. And, in that moment, I knew that all was well and all was perfectly timed. I chose to trust beyond the realities I could see. This is the intelligence of God. This is intuition. This is the inner teacher.

I have always loved the idea of walking the illuminated path, and the scenario described above is a perfect example of recognizing and trusting that path. To me, intuition—whispered by a higher source—is what illuminates the path. It is the tool of Illumination itself. The guide. It points to the next best step, to an upward spiraling, and to tomorrow’s right experience. I am more equipped for situations and circumstances, as they appear in my experience, when I listen to my intuition.

Follow the illuminated path.
